Earlier in the national conference on science and technology innovation, the MII published the Analysis of IT Field Patents Report 2006.
The report says that within the opened or authorized creative and practical patent applications, there are 458,965 belonging to the field of information technology, accounting for 30.3% of total applications. From this ratio it can be seen that the field of information technology covers the most active technological innovation and has accumulated abundant patents, but also is the most competitive field.
The report also said that although the quantity of domestic patents in information technology field exceeds the applications abroad, only from the patent applications, the situation is still not optimistic: Domestic patent applications account for 32.83%, while those abroad account for 67.17%. In the domestic patent applications, enterprise applications are at more than 50%, of which three-funded enterprises account for a considerable proportion, so it can be seen that the domestic patent quantity exceeds that of abroad, but the quality is still suffering a big gap from abroad, as the overwhelming majority of the core technology are still mastered by foreign enterprises.
