Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) recently said that affected by the impact of the strong demand, global chip sales have gained a year-on-year increase of 11.5% in July, reaching USD 20.1 billion.
SIA president George said in a statement that the sales volume of a variety of terminal markets and regions has continued to grow strongly. Compared with a year earlier, July's sales grew by 18% in the United States, 13.4% in the Asia-Pacific region, 8% in Japan, and 4% in Europe.
With continuous application of chips in mobile phones, MP3 players, television sets and other more products, the semiconductor industry has reduced the dependence on the PC industry, showing a steady growing trend. The Association also stated that the drop in the price of chips has lowered the price of electronic products. (Computer World Web news, Science & Technology Division of the Department)
